Congratulations to our Perfect Pet Project Challenge Winners and Participants!

A big shout out to all of you who participated in the Dremel Perfect Pet Project Challenge! We couldn't be more pleased to see the high level of your participation as well as the creativity of your entries. What's more, it's gratifying to see the comments of praise and encouragement that you are sharing with your fellow members. Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us - there was such a wide variety of original ideas!

Before we get to the winners, I'd like to share some of the other entries with you. All of these are fun, engaging, and or executed with great skill that they deserve to be called out and shared. Please know that I am limited by space so that I cannot comment on all entries, so an entry not being mentioned here is in by no means any less worthy of comment or attention!

Cat litter box/ feeding station and crow's nest sleeping basket

This entry has it all going on for felines. The unit is a litter box, a feeding station, and a nap-time retreat. Doing multi-functional is not always easy, but it's always gratifying when all the separate features combine into a well-functioning single unit! Take a look at the multiple photos sent in as part of this project "Cat litter box/ feeding station and crow's nest sleeping basket."

The above project is one of four entries sent in by @Wacky Whittler. We've got to admit this Biplane squirrel feeder is a favorite of the Maker Studio staff.

Engraved Glass Treat Jar

Another great entry! This Engraved Glass Treat Jar submission had such wonderful photography - it really showed off the handiwork! The simplicity of this project shows that the how a common item can become something so unique with a little bit of personalization. The Stylo+ rotary tool and a diamond engraving bit helped complete this awesome project by @WillowcreekTJ.

Cowboy bird house

Can't you just see the surprise on this cowboy's face when he realizes a bird just flew out of his mouth? Nicely carved, nicely painted and a safe and secure home to our feathered friends to (cowboy) boot. Using a Dremel 4000 rotary tool and a Flex Shaft attachment, Maker member @Rob Vreeland sent in this worthy entry called "Cowboy bird house".

Bourbon Barrel Dog Bed

Member @Donkel took a modern take on the classic dog bed with their entiry "Bourbon Barrel Dog Bed", which is both rustic and reclaimed! The use of a bourbon barrel is novel and the overall execution of the project is top-notch. Also going for the project is the abundant use of photos showing the project at various stages of progress and the use of Dremel tools being used to complete the project. I picture a St. Bernard using this bed for a nap and of course he's wearing a small keg around his neck for the whole barrel-inside-a-barrel motif.

Without further ado, we're pleased to announce the winners of the Perfect Pet Project Challenge.

Third Place Winner

Dog Bone Name Sign

I can't help but think that Dexter captured the hearts of every Maker Studio membersas they gazed into his soulful eyes! Then "bam!", the next thing they knew they had unloaded all their votes to propel this project into third place. Nicely done, Dexter! 😉  Member @Thatch used a Dremel Lite rotary tool and a Dremel scroll saw to cut and shape black walnut into a bone-shaped name sign. If Dexter asks for a vacation home in Hawaii, he probably gets that too, right? How could you say no to that little guy??

Prize: $100 Visa Gift Card

Second Place Winner

Monster bird house, aka chicken coop

Sometimes when grandpa falls asleep in his recliner after a big meal, the grandkids are tempted to toss a bread crumb or two into his open, snoring mouth. I see the old man in this project waking up with a snort as he discovers a bird, aka chicken, suddenly poking his head in. Member @Carving Fusion used a Dremel model 4000 rotary tool with Flex Shaft attachment to carve this monster-sized bird house out of western red cedar. Well done!

Prize: $150 Visa Gift Card

First Place Winner

A house for birds to live in

After Dremel Maker Studio member @Samih Abdou placed this bird house in his backyard he probably wrote this ad:
"Cozy Two Bedroom for Rent in Quiet Neighborhood".

  • Fully decorated old wooden barn with a lovely rustic look.
  • Common living room, kitchen and nursery.
  • Nice view.
  • Open air concept.
  • Great starter home for active young family.

We're happy to see that Samih used his Dremel Trio (discontinued) with TR561 Multi-Purpose Cutting Bit to cut the wood and his Dremel 3000 rotary tool attached to the Dremel Workstation to drill and sand. Who said building a home is not a good investment?

Prize: $250 Visa Gift Card

But wait, there's more!

The "Perfect Pet Project Challenge" wouldn't be a success without member participation. Maker Studio members, you are the ones who view the projects, make comments, and vote for the winners. As promised, we are giving away a Multi-Max MM35 oscillating tool and the 7760-PGK Pet Grooming Tool to a randomly-drawn member who voted during the challenge. And, our winner is: @erichardson08Congratulations!
