We are pleased to be continue our series on Maker Studio member profiles, and this week we had the chance to catch up with Larry Dibb aka Two Brothers One Vision to get to know him a little better! Read on to learn more about Larry and the projects he tackles with Dremel tools.
Why did you join Maker Studio?
I joined the Maker Studio after finding power carving online. We always had Dremel tools around for art and jewelry design and making, but never used to this new found degree. As a life long pencil artist, I instantly found that the Dremel flex shaft was basically an extension of what I already knew. Because of the drawing, my handpiece & control feel right at home. After finding Carving Fusion and the amazing community and family that come along with it, a few fellow members told me about the Dremel Maker Studio.
What's your favorite part of the Maker Studio community?
My favourite part of the community so far is the sharing of ideas and creations, seeing what others are up to, and sharing our own work is fun as well. Us artists and makers need to stick together and support each other, instead of always competing. I feel that support here...
How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?
Myself to a stranger?? Well, I can look kind of daunting but deep down I’m a huge softy. Tattoos and scars, and due to pain issues, I may look intense but really I am kind and care about my fellow brother and sisters of the Earth.
What types of projects are your favorite ones to complete? Crafts? Home upgrades? Something else?
My favourite projects are ones I do along with my brother, our collaborations. He has a fondness for copper and metal work, so we find ways of intertwining our artwork, as well with Mother Nature. I am finding that carvings with a touch of his copper are very special to me. They feel balanced and right in my chaotic mind lol.
What is your favorite Dremel product? How has it helped with your projects?
My favourite Dremel product is the flex shaft, bar none. It is my magic wand in wood carving and sanding, of course it works absolute best with a Dremel motor attached. But if I HAVE to pick only one product, it’s the flex shaft.
What's the best project you have completed and how did you accomplish it?
Best project ever completed was a little mushroom house light piece, my bro and I weaved the door in copper wire and beach glass , it took over a year and a half to fill in slowly. I will include a pic of the art piece, as well as a few other things Darren has made. It is a collaboration and treasure that I’ll probably never sell.
What's the most difficult project you have tackled?
Most difficult project…Well, I’ve had a few projects where I’ve been tasked with tributes to folks who have passed on. My Grandma's gravestone design, is top of that list. The responsibility of tribute pieces weigh so heavily, the burning desire to be worthy and true. We take these things very seriously, no matter what medium it may be conveyed thru.
If you could create any type of project (with no limitations), what would you do? Why?
Dream job: would be creating everyday and making a great living from it. Have Art pay all the bills and take care of my family and people.
What is the coolest thing you’ve learned or made using a Dremel product?
The coolest thing I’ve learned is power carving, and all of the waves of inspiration that have followed. Over the past two years dealing with covid, I found a medium and place to escape, like no other. I go far away from the worldly pains, even for just brief moments. I’m very grateful for Art and what it has brought into my life. Since the carving began, my house has filled up with magic, and that’s totally ok!! The pieces will find their right homes, I’m just so happy to make them!
What’s the next Dremel product on your wish list?
The next tool on the wish list would be that fancy-dancey new cordless Dremel model. It sure looks awesome. I just got my Dremel 3000 from the Maker Studio and I’m very grateful for it, thanks again.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.
Something most don’t know? Well, I’m a musician and singer, grew up around country music and musicians, and have a huge love for old country and western music. Up in northern Alberta, Canada, jamming in cabins and fire light.
What's the best advice that anyone has ever given you?
The best advice I ever got was “Never take a Life for granted, no matter how small or simple it may be... Ever.” Given by my Late Grandma.
What’s your favorite TV show or movie right now?
My favourite TV show or movie, Movie is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, TV: Anything about UFOS or paranormal subjects.
What's your all-time favorite food?
Favourite food is anything my Mom is cooking :)
